The Aram Gallery presents a tribute to Zeev Aram through a display of its history, and an exhibition by the MA Material Futures course at Central Saint Martins.

Since opening in 2002, the gallery has become a renowned place to see new or experimental work, find emerging designers, and learn about the latest materials and processes. The space supports designers in their early careers, an aspect that grew from founder Zeev Aram’s passion for discovering talent. All 72 of the gallery’s wide-ranging past shows will be celebrated in an original display by interdisciplinary design studio, Mentsen. An accompanying document will highlight the legacy of the gallery and its longstanding contribution to the design scene.

Always looking at what is new and next, the gallery has chosen to reopen with an exhibition by MA Material Futures. The postgraduate course combines design with science and technology to ‘look beyond existing disciplines to anticipate our future needs, desires and challenges for the 21st century.’ Works by current students, graduates and alumni have been selected to represent the course’s experimental nature and questioning approach. These include: sequins made from cellulose by Elissa Brunato, Lars Dittrich’s machine for sculpting mycelium forms with air, a proposal by Valerie Epping for bespoke tailoring via virtual reality, an investigation into the digestive power of fungi by Rūta Irbīte, and Aastha Poddar’s exploration of algae as an alternative dye.
